Knoll

Knoll

Knoll is an American brand with European headquarters in Italy. The company was founded in 1938 by Hans G. Knoll, a German immigrant to the U.S., and son of one of Germany’s pioneer manufacturers of modern furniture. During World War II, Hans Knoll hired the young space planner and designer Florence Schust, who had a degree from the Cranbrook Academy in Michigan and from the Architectural Association in London. Hans and Florence were married in 1946, and they formed Knoll Associates. Florence played a critical role in the development and direction of the company. The two of them searched for and nurtured talented designers. They believed strongly that designers should be credited by name and paid royalties for their work, a tradition which continues at Knoll today.

The Knoll mantra is “no compromise ever.” This is a very appropriate strapline for a furniture collection typified by exacting, precise designs, many of which have become modern classics. The Knoll collection includes timeless statement pieces such as the Barcelona chair by Mies van Der Rohe, the incredibly elegant Florence Knoll sofas and armchairs, and the curvaceous, sculptural designs of Harry Bertoia and Eero Saarinen, to name just a few. Knoll also keep adding striking new designs to their collection, such as the Generation office chair by Formway and the Barber & Osgerby sofa collection.

Carl Hansen

Carl Hansen

Craftsmanship can be a lot of things. To Carl Hansen, it is everything and it has been so ever since 1908 when he founded his company in Odense, Denmark.

Carl Hansen founded his company on a strong belief: outstanding craftsmanship and rational serial production could go hand-in-hand to provide customers with high-quality furniture at a reasonable price. Today, they continue to build on this simple but strong idea combining traditional woodworking techniques with the latest technology to produce furniture of lasting value.

Most of the furniture produced today was designed by leading Danish architects back in the 1930s and up to the 1960s, but the design, the vision and the craftsmanship behind every piece of furniture is still as relevant today as it was then. If not even more so today. This is why their dedication to working with the best materials and the best designers has, and will always be, fundamental to Carl Hansen & Søn.

Magis

Magis

Magis embraces its identity though a heterogeneous company catalogue based on leading edge technology that incorporates mass production.

Since 1976 this Italian newcomer in the furniture business, founded by Eugenio Perazza, has become a giant design laboratory that entrusts creative international designers to carry out diversified production through the flexibility that comes from an emphasis on R&D within a “factory free” framework. The Air-chair by Jasper Morrison is one such example, while Konstantin Grcic’s Stool and Jerszy Seymour’s debut on the industrial design scene with the Easy Chair are among others.

Georg Jensen

Georg Jensen

With a history that spans more than 100 years, the Georg Jensen brand represents quality craftsmanship and timeless aesthetic design, producing lifestyle products ranging from hollowware to watches, jewellery and home products.

The philosophy of Georg Jensen himself was to create democratic designs possessing both functionality and beauty. His artisanal skill and artistic talent combined with his continuous ability to identify and support design talent was the foundation on which he built Georg Jensen in Copenhagen in 1904.

Georg Jensen’s style embraced the Art Nouveau lines of the day but injected them with a distinctive vigour that continues to resonate today. Serene flowing forms are enriched by exquisitely sculpted ornamentation and his stylised bouquets of flowers and lush bunches of grapes reflect his sensual delight in nature. Our most important task is to leverage the ideas and principles of the master himself and translate these into the design of the present day.

The Georg Jensen brand is based on a number of shared values such as integrity, authenticity and Danish design. All resonating the Danish values - the simplicity of life, the Nordic light, clean water and fresh air – and all capsulised in the Georg Jensen Vision, Mission and Values. Respecting our DNA and our values it is both our obligation and our opportunity to run a profitable business providing products relevant to the consumer of today.
